Nikon SLM Solutions
Nikon SLM Solutions and Additive Assurance have announced a strategic partnership to integrate AMiRIS Inside into Nikon SLM Solutions’ market-leading NXG platform, marking the first time a near-infrared optical tomography system will monitor all 12 lasers simultaneously within a production-scale metal additive manufacturing (AM) system.
This breakthrough represents a significant leap forward for process monitoring, enabling real-time quality assurance across the entire build field — a capability never before achieved at this scale. The integration of AMiRIS Inside with the NXG platform offers manufacturers unprecedented visibility, consistency, and confidence in large-scale metal AM production.
“From our experience using Nikon SLM Solutions’ and Additive Assurance’s equipment, we have come to realize that the true benefit will be in further integration of such technology leaders’ products together,” says Prof. Milan Brandt, Director of the Centre for Additive Manufacturing, RMIT University. “This is the first great step in that direction and in particular, for the aerospace industry to give more confidence in large part production.”
“This partnership with Nikon SLM Solutions is a perfect fusion of two best-in-class technologies,” says Marten Jurg, CEO, Additive Assurance. “By embedding AMiRIS Inside with Nikon SLM’s market-leading NXG platform, we’ve put the customer’s need for reliability at the heart of the solution. It’s this strength that gives manufacturers confidence to innovate and expand their manufacturing boundaries.”
“By bringing together Additive Assurance’s advanced monitoring technology and our high-productivity multi-laser systems, we are redefining what’s possible in large-scale metal AM,” says Simon Merkt-Schippers, Vice President Research & Development, Nikon SLM Solutions. “This is the first time in the industry that 12 lasers are being observed simultaneously by a near-infrared optical tomography system — a milestone that underscores Nikon SLM Solutions’ leadership in industrializing additive manufacturing.”
The collaboration will deliver a fully integrated monitoring solution that provides real-time melt pool and layer analysis, ensuring that even the most complex multi-laser builds meet demanding industrial standards for consistency and reliability.
Together, Nikon SLM Solutions and Additive Assurance are taking a decisive step toward certifiable, serial AM production, enabling customers in aerospace, defense and energy to manufacture larger, more complex components with complete confidence.
