Automated workpiece clamping

TOPlus AC and SPANNTOP automated change (AC) chucks allow automatic change-over of clamping heads and work piece end-stops, enabling unattended setup and production of work pieces with different clamping diameters, profiles, and depths. To set up a vertical machine, the spindle with the mounted chuck positions itself above the previously assembled clamping head with end-stop. This process only takes seconds to complete. The change-over procedure can also be carried out by a robot or a gantry in case of a horizontal lathe or machining center. The centroteX interface eases the changing of entire clamping devices, only taking about five minutes to change the clamping device by hand.

Milling cutter

For machining Inconel, Hastelloy, Waspaloy, and other nickel-based alloys, a six-edge cutter was added to the MonsterMill ISO-S range. The new cutter joins four- and five-edge cutters blending carbide, coating, and geometry providing consistently smooth cutting action in difficult-to-machine alloys.
Nickel-based alloys have low thermal conductivity, heating the tool instead of dispersing into the material. To control heat accumulation during cutting, the six-edge MonsterMill geometry has been engineered for improved chip evacuation and reduced thermal generation.
The irregular pitch of the cutting edges and a variable helix angle of the MonsterMill ISO-S minimize vibrations, significantly increasing the tool’s machining performance and preventing tool breakage. Those features also improve workpiece surface quality and reduce the need for further secondary processes. The cutter’s DPX22S Dragonskin coating was developed specifically for use on nickel-based alloys and provides high thermal stability and outstanding wear resistance thanks to its special layer structure.
